This is an inclusive exhibition on June First Friday that will KICK-OFF the Artwalk Weekend at 100 Christina St.
During the month of April we received submissions from members of Sarnia-Lambton of all ages and experience. During the second week of May, this years curators will be reviewing the artwork and contact artists by the 16th. The work will be hung in a way that is respectful of the art and creates a unified and collaborative show on June 3rd, 2016 at 100 Christina.
LOCAL strives to promote all artists in Sarnia without taking a fee, membership or requiring any experience. It is an inclusive show and an opportunity for artsits to network in Sarnia. It offers the community a look at work by artists who may also be participating in the Artwalk, a cultural and art weekend held in the streets of downtown Sarnia which begins the next day. LOCAL is held at the headquarters of Artwalk and is a celebration of not only artwork, but also music and poets.
The show is part of Sarnia First Friday, a monthly art and cultural walkabout in Sarnia. First Fridays run from 6-9pm. During these hours musicians Jacob Giresi, Chad Cusack who performs under the name The Unwashed and Jonathan Chamberlain will be playing acousitc originals and covers. Between musicians, several local poets will perform their work. Authors include Debie Okun Hill, David Plain and Kara Smith.
After regular First Friday hours, at 9:30 PM, the mural will be lit and "revealed" and the local band Weird Neighbours will perform. Brittany Henderson (vocals, guitar) James Jenkins (vocals, bass, guitar) Ian Alexander (drums)

Curator and Organizer
Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, artist Laura Kreviazuk earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Guelph, where she graduated with honours. Following graduation, Laura relocated to Toronto where she co-founded the VSVSVS studio collective and artist run-center. It was in Toronto that Laura began developing her own visual style and language. Now back in her hometown, Laura is dedicated full time to her studio practice finding inspiration in her industrial surroundings. In her work,
Laura is best known for her exhaustive use of contrast, scale, and gestures. Her work often blurs the line between painting and drawing, and is consistently inspired by the power of the intuitive process. You’ll notice she frequently uses a limited palette to create an emotional atmosphere. Laura has built an impressive body of work that explores abstraction in terms of complex visual layering, each piece evolving through a process of constantly adding and erasing layers and marks.
As an engaged member in her local arts community, Laura is very active participating, exhibiting, contributing, and volunteering both her work and her expertise in many local fundraisers and workshops. She is very excited to have been commissioned to create a painting on the window front of 100 Christina; working on a large scale, this site-specific piece will allow her to create a complex, chaotic environment for people to engage in. Laura loves to inspire others, and hopes to provide her community with more opportunities to connect with the visual arts.
